How to Care for Your Leather Bag

Leather is a living material. It’s not meant to look the same on day one as it does five years from now, that’s part of what makes it worth owning. Here’s how to look after yours.

Leather Ages, and That’s the Point

As a natural product, your bag will change over time. It’ll darken and shift in tone with weather, the natural oils from your skin, and general use. Leather isn’t dirt- or water-resistant, so it’s worth treating with a bit of care and attention, but the marks it picks up along the way are part of the story, not a flaw.

Protecting It

For best results, apply a sealant like Plush Leather Protector every 3–6 months. If the leather starts looking tired or dry, a clear or natural leather food will help moisturise it back to life.

Dealing With Scratches

Light scratches happen, it’s leather. Use a slightly damp, unscented wipe and gently rub over the mark, let it dry fully, then follow up with your leather protector.

If It Gets Wet

Don’t panic, but act quickly. Blot, don’t rub, the excess water off with a soft, dry cloth as soon as you can, then let the bag air dry naturally. Avoid a hairdryer or direct sunlight to speed things up, both can damage the leather and affect its colour.

What to Watch Out For

Leather is highly absorbent, so keep it away from liquids, pens, oils, makeup, and dark fabrics that can transfer dye. A spill that seems minor can stain permanently if it isn’t caught early.

Everyday Care

Scratches and scuffs are part of owning real leather. Being mindful of where you set your bag down, and keeping it away from sharp edges, goes a long way.
